To AI or NOT AI

If you’re alive and breathing, and reading this blog, there’s no doubt you’ve heard about AI

How it’s an awesome tool.

How it’s the end of the human race.

How it’s going to take over every job and tank the economy.

None of this is true, to a point.

Take my day: I woke up, fired up Claude and had it convert a screenshot of my son’s baseball schedule into text. I then had it populate these dates in my Google Calendar. And had each color coded. I also added notification prompts.

Without Claude that would have been half an hour out of my day. Thirty minutes doesn’t seem like much, but if I had other tasks, projects, or chores to do, that’s time I wouldn’t get back.

Throughout my week I’ve used different AI machines for multiple tasks. There’s one thing I won’t use it for. Ever. Writing content. That’s a no brainer, as my entire business model focuses on creating content that’s written by a real live human being.

AI might be a quick fix for business owners who need an email or business plan created, but when it’s used for anything else, the result is the same: bland, boring content that has no voice or style.

(While I write this there’s an icon on the SquareSpace bar offering to write this for me.)

I’ll be using this space to share more ideas, stories, and observations on writing, the role of AI in our world, and anything else that occupies my brain. (The Baltimore Ravens chief among them.)
